ESNET BLACK SEA BASIN EARTHQUAKE SAFETY NET(WORK) PROJECT WEB PORTAL WAS LAUNCHED in CHISINAU


ESNET Project is one of IBC cross border Project and it is implemented in four countries through multi-partnership with EU funds.

Within ESNET Project the meeting is taking place as part of the Group of Activities 2 / Activity 2.2 “Increase the sector cooperation by setting up the Black Sea Safety Network / Launch of the Seismic safety Net(work) Web Portal” was held in Chisinau on 27th September 2013.  The aim of the action is to create a platform for long-term cooperation among the stakeholders in the participating countries, in the field of preventing, monitoring and intervention in case of earthquakes. The web portal that was inaugurated in this conference is just one component of the platform, alongside this being also the ESNET Network already created and the monitoring and early warning software and communication tool (e-group), work in progress.

The meeting was organized by Moldavian Project Partner Institute of Geology and Seismology with the participations of from Turkey International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation, Bogaziçi University Kandilli Observatory Earthquake Research Institution, IAU Disaster Education Application and Research Center, Kucukcekmece Municipality, from Romania National Institute of Earth Physics, Constanta Prefecture Public Services and Emergency Situation, Dobrogea Prevention Department, Foundation for Democracy, Culture and Liberty, Constanta Red Cross, from Bulgaria Bulgarian Academy of Sciences National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography, from Republic of Moldova Institute of Geology and Seismology, National Bureau of Statistics, Civil Protection and Emergency Situation, Chisinau City Hall.  

The main purpose of the meeting was to public present the present status of the ESNET webportal using as dissemination vehicles invited quests and local media.

IPA Partner International Blue Crescent Foundation – IBC and Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory Earthquake Research Institution - KOERI from Turkey contributed discussions with its contribution models through brief samplings about “Real Time Rapid Response” and "Earthquake Early Warning Applications”.

ESNET Network members, Web Portal main users and data providers in Bulgaria were presented by Bulgarian Project Partner BAS – NIGGG.            

Web Portal- effective tool for cooperation of Project partners, stakeholders and citizens on issues regarding earthquakes safety subjects were briefed by Moldavian Partner IGS.

Step by step each module of the webportal was presented, underling main structure, functionalities, possible and targeted users and the main information that brings. Bellow there are print screens of the web portal Homepage and Seismicity Module.

As any other project website the information about the objectives, estimated results, actions, partners and timeline are gather in the ABOUT THE PROJECT menu.

Brief and detail reports about the past project meeting with relevant information and suggestive pictures could be found in CONFERENCES menu.

A place for relevant project documents organized in specific categories (ex: Strategies, Research, Internal Reports, etc) are accessible in the DOCUMENTS menu. This will be continuously updated by partners and other authenticated users. It will be a bank of project related documents useful for researchers, stakeholders and other interested parties.

The core of this web portal is the Seismicity module. Still in an early and developing stage, the module display a map with earthquake located in the Black Sea region (and not only) using the shared ESNET monitoring network. A list of located events is also available and also a search event option menu to apply specific search criteria. 

For authenticate user the seismicity module allow to see some more information regarding the seismic vulnerability associated to an event as well as shake and intensity maps. Different GIS layers as the one comprising monitoring seismic station locations or geologic faults, are also available. For more information please visit www.blacksea-esnet.eu

The site is available in 4 languages : English, Romanian, Turkish and Bulgarian.

The meeting was closed with conclusion remarks of each Project partner coordinators. 

On the second day of the technical visit Turkish Delegation made study visits to Seismic Station Milestii-Mici and Chisinau City Hall Security Unit.
