TURKISH AND MIDDLE EAST NGO'S COMPLAIN ABOUT UNHCR POLICY TO REDUCE PARTNERSHIP WITH NATIONAL NGO'S

UNHCR - NGO’s annual consultation meetings held in Geneva between 3-5th July 2019. Main topic of the meeting was the coordination of civil society and UNHCR for a better and powerfull response to the problems refugees are facing.

UNHCR High Commissioner Mr. Filippo Grandi at the Opening Speech stated that 2/3 of the funds are allocated to NGO s and around 600 million USD used through national NGO’s.

Middle East region NGO’s reacted to this statement  by reminding that during the last years UNHCR partnership with national NGO’ s is decreased dramatically despite Turkey Jordan and Lebanon host the highest refugee population.

IBC International Blue Crescent Vice President directed this question to Mr. Grandi reminding that UNHCR policy in Turkey is mainly focusing on cooperation with state.

Mr. Grandi admitted this reality and stated that Turkish Goverment is praised for its contribution.

He confirmed that UNHCR cooperation with Turkish NGO s is limited and this contradicying with the general policy of the organisation.

12 Turkish NGO’s participating to the consultation meetings.

IBC is represented by Vice President Muzaffer Baca and Programs Director Tolga Baca.
