Blue Crescent Education and Rehabilitation Center Establishment : 23 May 2003 Location : Hacı Osman Mah. Bağdat Caddesi , Bölge Trafik Arkası Evyap İlköğretim Okulu Karşısı Yarıca-Körfez / Kocaeli -Türkiye Goal : The purpose in the establishment of our center is to provide the conditions required in educating the mentally challenged children to attain the habits of self sustainability in their daily lives, thus enabling support to their parents and also support their integration in social life. Supporting Institutions : The Center was established with the support of the Turkish Prime Ministry, Directorate of Social Services and Child Protection Agency, Governorship of Kocaeli, Kocaeli Directorate of National Education, Bekirpaşa Municipality , Sapanca Municipality , Malteser ( Germany ), Islamic Relief ( Great Britain ) and Global Park and Landscaping Services Company. General Information Our Foundation has implemented a variety of projects in order to alleviate the physical and social results of the devastating earthquake that occurred on 1999 wherein construction of schools and houses, social programs as parent school partnership and giving support to health institutions are also included. The necessity and deficiency of educational activities towards mentally challenged children has been determined during this period and the necessary preparations have been started in 2003. The project was supported by Governorship of Kocaeli and Directorate of National Education by allocation of an unused prefabricated school. The preparations have taken four months and on May 23, 2003 the school was opened by obtaining the necessary permissions, affiliated to the Directorate of Social Services and Child Protection Agency. Within the 600 square meters of the prefabricated construction area our center, gave not only standard tutorial education but education in handcraft skills, ceramic, carpet weaving and computer development skills, for which met the appreciation of the parents of our children and other institutions working in this field as well. In order to provide a more selective and appropriate education environment to our children and their parents as well as our teachers, our applications were supported by the Directorate of Social Services and Child Protection Agency resulting with the allocation of the former Yarımca Fuat Köprülü Childrens' School to our foundation on July 4, 2005 . Our foundation has renewed and made available the inactive building from bottom to top to give an appropriate service to our children, their parents and to our educational staff. The new premises are 1450 square meters wherein 3 group therapy, 8 tutorial classes, carpet weaving atelier, musical therapy saloon, calisthenics saloon, physiotherapy saloon ceramic, handicraft ateliers, multi functional saloon, parents' room, restaurant, meeting room, teachers' room and administrative rooms are established and put into service. Additionally arrangements have been done to the 1000 square metes garden of the school for a greenhouse for agricultural therapy, and an open sports ground for basketball and volleyball. A Mini Golf course has also been planned for spring 2007. The center that has started with the participation of 30 children is now giving service to more than 200 students. In accordance with the principals of the foundation, the center not only gives service to the pupils with social security cover but to the ones without, on free of charge basis for capacity building in skills and proficiency. In order to increase the self-reliance and to motivate the social integration within our children exhibitions, picnics and parental tea gatherings are organized. Our center that has been affiliated to the Ministry of Education presently with the latest legislative amendments continues to serve to the mentally challenged children as an outstanding example.
