IBC HAS BEEN PREPARING TO LAUNCH A PERMANENT HOUSING PROJECT IN BAM

The machines will be useful for the production of bricks and other
necessary construction equipments.

International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation (IBC) has intensified its activities in Bam in order to alleviate the sufferings of the earthquake victims. After the devastating earthquake, the prominent of IBC had paid a visit to the earthquake zone for the determination of the needs. According to the records, sheltering matter was one of the major problems before the earthquake victims. Hence, IBC has oriented its policy according to the needs of the people living in the region. These were classified in three groups: Short term, middle term and long term needs.
By short term needs, it was meant the fundamental needs of the victims, such as hygienic packages. The provision of foodstuffs and hygienic packages was a must for the survival of the victims. The second step was the solution of sheltering problem. IBC has taken part in the construction of the container camps of Isfahan 1, Isfahan 2, Qom1, Qom 2, Shehdari/Belediye. In addition to this, IBC has been fulfilling some vital activities within the camps, such as establishing and running laundries, and kindergartens.

Previously IBC had constructed 168 houses for the earthquake victims in Duzce, Turkey.
The houses were handed over to the beneficiaries at the end of 2003.

No matter how hard it is, IBC will continue to broaden the alternatives of disadvantaged people all over the world.

On the other hand, IBC and its partners are aware that, container camps cannot be regarded as a “permanent solution”. Hence the next step should be the construction of “permanent houses” for the earthquake victims. With the financial support of its foreign partners, IBC has been planning to construct 500 houses for the earthquake victims in Bam. For the realization of this aim, the technical staff of the Foundation has made the necessary investigations in the region. Obviously the houses will be constructed according to the climate and the customs of the region.

Thus, a report was prepared by the experienced staff of the Foundation, highlighting all the required equipments and machines for the construction. On 23 rd of June 2004, the required three machines were transported from India with two experienced technicians who are going to contribute to the construction of two sample houses. The IBC staff is in the expectation of the realization of such a huge project which will cover the needs of thousands of disadvantaged people.
