UNOCHA representative Mr Bordbar is visiting IBC office in Bam

International Blue Crescent Humanitarian Relief and Development Foundation(IBC) is intensifying its community rehabilitation and reconstruction activities in Bam/Iran..

In this frame IBC is mainly focusing on operating laundry units, children social centers and health institutions in the four Turkish container camps where 4000 inhabitants accommodated.

The progress report about IBC activities is as following:

A. ACTIVITIES IN THE TURKISH CONTAINER CAMPS

  1. Children's Social Centers (in the Turkish container camps Isfahan1, Isfahan2, Qom1, Qom2, Shehrdari)

or the 8 Children's Social Centers IBC has prepared the necessary logistics and has pre-selected the potential teachers, after the consultation with the Bam Education Office (with whom IBC signed a MoU). There are 2 clinical psychologists to be coordinating the psycho-social intervention activity and there will be selected 16 teachers to work in the Centers.

Workshop for training in psycosocial intervention-Bam

Between 27 th and 28 th of April, IBC is organizing a training workshop for the pre-selected teachers with practical activities to be used in the Children's Center program. After this workshop the 16 teachers will be decided and the activities in the camps will start during next week.

We mention that the activities in the Centers will be financed for a period of 9 months, as well as the personnel will receive their salary for the same period of time). Also, the locations are going to be provided with air conditioning.

  1. Laundry rooms (in the Turkish container camps Isfahan1, Isfahan2, Qom1, Qom2, Shehrdari)

5 Laundry rooms were prepared in each of the camps (with 10 LG washing machines / camp, model WD-14110 FD, 7 kg capacity, 100% drier). In each laundry room there is going to be employed one person from the camp to take care of the location and to help the beneficiaries in using properly the machines. Also, for reasons of safety, IBC intends to employ one guard for the night (in some of the camps).

IBC Laundry units are established in the Turkish camps for the hygienic needs of inhabitants

All the laundries have been prepared but due to some technical problems (like law pressure of the water in the pipes and the weak electricity system), IBC had to make some improvements to the laundries, like buying and installing water tanks and water pumps for each laundry container and also the electricity system had to be changed with a three phased one.

IBC provides the baskets in the laundry and all the necessary cleaning materials and powders for a period of 9 months, from the starting date.

  1. Placing refuse containers for solid waste (garbage boxes)

(Isfahan1, Isfahan2, Qom1, Qom2)

100 covered garbage boxes (80cm and a diameter of 50cm) from metal were provided for the 4 camps, as following: 28 for Qom1, 22 for Qom2, 20 for Isfahan1 and 30 for Isfahan2.

  1. Installing playgrounds

(Isfahan2, Qom1, Qom2)

Due to the fact that in the camps Isfahan1 the Isfahan province provided playgrounds and in the Shehrdari camp other NGO has provided this facility, remained only the camps Qom1 and Qom2, with no facility and Isfaha2, where the number of children is high and the playground facilities are not sufficient.
