The Livestock Symposium which was organized commonly by Ardahan Province Agriculture Directorate and International Blue Crescent Humanitarian Relief and Development Foundation (IBC) has been realized in Ardahan Public Education Center in 19 April 2004. Besides Deputy Governors Ahmet Erdogdu, Aydın Barus, Fikret Cavus, The Chairman of Ardahan Agriculture Chambers, Latifsah Sural and The President of IBC, Recep Uker; many of local authorities and breeders have participated in the symposium.

The opening speaker of the Symposium, Province Agriculture Director Fikret Karakoc has stressed on the importance of their studies which is coordinated by IBC. Karakoc has added that, although livestock sector carrying a great potential which is one of most important living source for Ardahan, it has not been evaluated sufficiently.
Fatih Evren, who began to speak after Karakoc gave information about their studies as the implementer of BTC Co. Evren, who explained their aim as humanitarian relief,

added that, to find themselves successful, sustainability of their running activities is principal criteria.
After the opening speeches, Livestock Health Branch Director Özcan Yildirim, the chairman of symposium, gave the first speech turn to İbrahim Muftuoglu, The Director of Projects and Statistics Branch. Muftuoglu, who mentioned given support projects to breeders in agriculture and livestock sector as Province Directorate; stated that they were ready to give all possible supports to breeders and farmers.

The Chairman of The Symposium Mr. Özcan Yıldırım devoted his speech to Struggle with Livestock Diseases, The Potential of Breeding in Ardahan and The Situation of Livestock Shelters And its The Requirements. Yildirim complained that although 59% out of total Ardahan's soil is meadow, this opportunity is not evaluated well enough.

The Director of Supporting Branch Hakan Erdogan, who participated as the last representative of Province Agriculture Directorate informed the breeder on cooperatives.

One of the important themes mentioned in symposium was artificial seeding. Veterinary Surgeon Erkan Sunal pointed out the negative stage in artificial seeding, although these studies have been started in the first years of Republic, in 1926. SUNAL has stated that they had implemented artificial seeding activities on thousands of livestock, and they required the participation of breeder to reach the aimed point.

Haydar Cevik, the Veterinary Surgeon of IBC has touched on zoonoz diseases like anthrax, brucellozis, leptospirozis, rabid, tuberculosis and methods of protection.

The latest speaker of the symposium Kemal Yazici, the lecturer of Kafkas University has given information about situation of implementing beekeeping activities, matters and solution proposes.

The final session of the symposium was devoted to the questions and answers.
