IBC HAS BEEN MAINTAINING ITS SUPPORT TO TERROR VICTIMS

Perihan Elma. She was one of the victims of the terrorist attacks. She had lost one of her eyes. She also cannot hear well. She cannot work since the incident.

On 15 th and 20 th of November in 2003 there were bomb attacks in different parts of Istanbul, killing more than 50, and wounding approximately 150 people. While the public opinion was in shock in the first days of the incidents, media institutions from different parts of the world, concentrated on the issue. International terrorism directed its weapons against innocent people as in the previous examples. The terror victims have been economically, psychologically, and sociologically suffering since the incident.
IBC is aware that terror victims are in great difficulties. Thus, IBC has launched a new project with its partners American Jewish World Service (AJWS) and Beyoglu Municipality . The project aims to support terror victims by distributing food packages. The first distribution was held before the Eid on 30 th and 31 st of January. In the first distribution, IBC team witnessed to the economic, psychological, and social difficulties of terror victims. The deteriorating conditions of the terror victims have stimulated

IBC and its partners to realize a much more sufficient assistance to terror victims.

It is also worth noting that many of them cannot work yet due to the health problems. When it was asked about the income of the family, many of them gave the same answer: It was the relatives and friends whom have been trying to financially support them.

The second distribution was realized on 2 nd of March, under the light of this approach. As in the previous one, IBC team accompanied to the second food package distribution as well. The packages contained the following foodstuff: Sunflower oil, rice, haricot bean, lentil, chickpea, sugar, tea, macaroni, flour, tomato paste, pounded wheat, soap, and detergent. IBC will continue to distribute foodstuff to the terror victims in the following month as well.
