IBC IS AWARDED “BEST INITIATIVE SUCCESS”

 

IBC has been announced to be awarded “Best Initiative Success Award” during the conference on “Best Practices on Participatory Local Development” in Ankara. The conference has been organized in cooperation with Sabanci University-Istanbul Policy Center, Friedrich Naumann Foundation, Sabancı Foundation, Dunya Newspaper and National Innovation Initiative on 23-24 May 2008. IBC has applied to the conference for its “Ardahan Socio-economic Development Initiative”, and has been one of the 14 projects which have been selected to participate in the conference out of 131 projects that applied. After the presentations of the projects by the participating institutions, the jury has announced the awards.

IBC had been implementing activities for socioeconomic development of Ardahan since 2003 with the financial support of the BTC Consortium and the EU. The Ardahan Socio-economic Development Initiative consists of 5 projects that are implemented in close cooperation with the community-based organizations and the public institutions affiliated with the Governorship of Ardahan. Within the context of the “Ardahan Socio-economic Development Initiative”, whose budget is over 5 million dollars, activities included those on social infrastructure, income generation, institutional capacity building, sociocultural activities and trainings. The representative of IBC, Project Coordinator Mr. Ercan Balcı participated in the conference and presented the initiative with visual materials. This project was announced to be awarded as a “Best Initiative Success” as well as the Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s award to participate in a study visit to a similar initiative in Europe.

IBC was represented at the conference by Mr. Recep Üker, the president, by Mr. Uğur Güngör, the member of the Board of Trustees and Ercan Balcı, the project coordinator.


On the first day of the conference, Mr. Rüştü Bozkurt from the Dünya Newspaper facilitated the first session, which was followed by a brief on the conference by Mr. Korel Göymen representing the Istanbul Policy Center. After the brief, Mr. Nazım Tural from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation delivered his speech. Sabancı Foundation was represented by Ms. Zerrin Koyunsağan while National Innovation Initiative was represented by Mr. Cemil Arıkan. The other projects that were awarded during the National Conference on Best Practices on Participatory Local Development were Erbaa Investment-oriented Development Project and Mersin Inovation Strategy.
