KAHRAMANMARAŞ RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ACTIVITIES UNDERGONE AS PLANNED
 

Kahramanmaraş Rural Development Project, has started on the 1 st of June 2007 , and is being implemented in 29 villages of Andırın and Goksun Districts. In the scope of the project new agricultural products and production techniques have been introduced to the beneficiaries.

Last dates in Summer Harvest in Greenhouses

Beneficiaries of three greenhouses established in Taşoluk, Çağlayan and Doğankonak are busy with the harvest practices of cucumber. It is expected that more than 9 tons of cucumber will be produced from the three greenhouses. Project's agricultural team reports that the greenhouse project has met its target.

By the end of October 2007, beneficiaries of the cooperative, with the project agricultural team will start preparing the greenhouses for winter plantation for onion and lettuce.

Project Management receives tens of requirements from villagers for additional greenhouses that Goksun and Andırın Districts' Agricultural Directorates closely follow and appreciate.

Time to Meet Broccoli

Broccoli, as a new agricultural product has been introduced on 6 gardens established in the scope of the project in order to increase the plant diversity in the region.

The first harvest practice in the gardens of Geben, Yiricek and Değirmendere has been realized by the middle of October 2007 and harvested 2 tons of broccolis and more than a ton of cauliflower .

A “Harvest Day” event was organized with participation of Goksun District Agricultural Director on 23 rd of October 2007.

The project management expects that 20 tons of broccoli and cauliflower will be produced by the end of the year.

TARGETS EXCEEDED IN THE WORK FOR IMPROVING STOCKBREEDING

Training of Stockbreeding

Trainings for improving stockbreeding within the project villages have been collected in three groups. The first rounds of the trainings were realized to a great degree during the third quarter period. During the trainings, information on zoonose diseases, fighting with animal diseases and hygiene of shelters were given to the beneficiaries. Training modules were prepared by the project team and organization of the trainings was undertaken in cooperation with the mukhtars and the representatives of Associations.

From the beginning of the project to the end of September, 477 breeders have been trained by the veterinaries recruited in the scope of the project

Combating With Animal Diseases and Hygiene of Shelters

Septicemia vaccination, parasite application, parasite tablet distribution and blotic puron implementations (for fighting of tick louse and flea) are being completed.

In order to obtain hygiene of shelter, activity on shelter hygiene is also being realized in all project villages within the framework of a campaign. By the end of September 2007, project veterinarians reported that 922 shelters have been protected from animal diseases. With this figure, project targets in hygiene of shelters have been exceeded the expected quantity.
