APICULTURE EDUCATION IN DAMAL-ARDAHAN BY INTERNATIONAL BLUE CRESCENT RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

 

International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation (Blue Crescent thereof) trained 25 women in apiculture in Damal-Ardahan. This program was made possible by a generous grant from Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Pipeline Project as part of the “Sustainable Rural Development Program”

 

 


25 women from various villages of Damal have participated in training programs in apiculture and upon successful completion of the training, they have received their certificates from the Governor of Ardahan, Mr. Murat Yıldırım during a graduation ceremony held in Damal. Each graduate also received 15 bee hives with bees in it, and 2 empty bee hives, (total of 375 bee hives with bees, and 50 empty bee hives) plus feeding materials for the bees donated by Ardahan Apiculture Breeding Station.

On behalf of the Blue Crescent, the Project coordinator Mr. Ercan Balcı, in his opening speech, welcomed the participants and gave a brief description of the project. According to Balcı, the trainees will be visited on sight by two experts year-round, in order to help the producers to improve their production of high quality honey. Mr. Balcı mentioned that, the Blue Crescent has also been helping other villagers in getting new job skills in agriculture and livestock. He also gave a brief description of the Blue Crescents several ongoing relief and develeopment projects in health and infrastructure areas elsewhere in the world.

 

 


In his speech, Governor Yıldırım praised the Blue Crescent for successfully running this Project and said that “this is an excellent example of public and private sectors' cooperation, and I hope that it will continue and grow in the future.”

The graduation ceremony was held at Ardahan Apiculture Breeding Station. In addition to the Governor of Ardahan, the Deputy Mayor of Ardahan Mr. Ayhan Kara, District Governor of Posof Mr. Mehmet Yıldız and several high level state officials were also present during the ceremony.
