The International Blue Crescent has started a bee hiving project concerning the women who live in the villages of Ardahan`s Damal County. The Damal County is unique with its harsh climate and low socio- economic status. This project is supported by the BTC Corporation and seeks to promote the life standards of the women who live in the villages. As a part of the rural sustainable development project, 8 women from the villages of Dereköy, Tepeköy, Otağlı and Burmadere of Damal County; received a total of 88 beehives. The unique part of this project is the implementation of it. As known, in other similar projects the participants are left alone with the material support. |

| Whereas, the Blue Crescent did not only distribute masks, gloves, insecticides and other materials that can be needed, but also provided theoretic and practical education in order to ensure the continuity and the sustainability of the project. The Ardahan Social Investment program sponsored by the BTC Corporation included advanced care in the selection process of women participants of the project. As a result of announcements and trips to the villages by project managers, every single potential participant was informed. The participants of this project were decided upon by a commission including the local authorities, the Blue Crescent field team and by the Bee Hiving Management. |

The participants received theoretic education and then were trained by professionals for five days with bee hives. The Blue Crescent bee hiving professionals and Ardahan Bee Hiving Production Station workers will be visiting the new bee hivers every week. “We are going to make sure that our women will be good bee hivers and be able to eat honey his year.” says the Bee Hiving Station manager Hamza Kopuz. He also adds that the project is well prepared and will be a good example to the other women. The International Blue Crescent seeks to achieve sustainable rural development in the area, thus they are also involved with other activities in the scheme of this development project such as agriculture, animal husbandry, social infrastructure, healthcare and household economics. |

The last step of these activities is the bee hiving project, that is in the implementation process, which seeks to provide women with the opportunity to take roles in social and economic activities. |
