IBC HELD A FOLLOW-UP TRAINING SEMINAR ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT FOR THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES FROM BAM / IRAN
 

As a follow-up to the “Community based disaster management training course” held by IBC – International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation in Turkey during the month of October 2004, on the 4 th of January 2005, IBC's representatives in Bam / Iran organized an one day seminar forward to disseminate the information to other members of the local authorities from Bam and Kerman.

The seminar took place in Parastoo Hall in Arg-e Jadid (Bam) and more than 100 people attended it. The participants were representatives from the Governorate of Bam, Bam Municipality, Task Force Bam, Disaster Management Department Kerman, Kerman Governorate, Department of Martyrs Kerman, Cooperative Department Bam, Culture Department Bam, Bam city's Shoura (Islamic City Council), Bam NGO Office, Bam Education Department, Reconstruction responsibles from zones 9, 7, 8, 4, 12, 10 and 1 of the city of Bam, BAFIA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Foreigners Department), Post Department Bam, Housing Foundation, Bam Health Network, Bam Water Department, Bam Communication Center, Identification Department, Bam Firefighters Department, Imam Khomeini Foundation, SEPAH Armed Force, Baravat Shoura, Esfikan village's Shoura, Dehbekri Shoura, Baravat Municipality, Cheheltokhm village's Shoura, Poshtrood village's Shoura, Islamabad village's Shoura, Zeid Abad village's Shoura, Rigan village's Shoura, Jahrom village's Shoura and also IRNA Broadcasting and IRAN TV.

After registration, all the participants received a 200 pages information pack with information on disaster preparedness and management.

The speakers were members of the Task Force and Disaster Management Department, who worked in Bam after the earthquake and who attended the training in Istanbul . They transmitted the information and knowledge accumulated during the course in Turkey to the representatives of the local authorities who still have to deal with the post disaster situation in Bam.

During the closure ceremony, the Task Force and the Disaster Management Department newly established in the Governorate of Kerman expressed their gratitude to the organizers of the training in Turkey and the follow up seminar, their trainers in Turkey, Mr. Merick Chatfield, Mr. Zubair Murshed and Ms. Alina Turtoi, coming from the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center in Thailand. Also at the end of the ceremony a gratitude certificate was handed to IBC's representative in Bam, Ms. Ana Oprisan, for all the work done in Bam since after the earthquake.
