IBC ESTABLISHED THE FIRST ‘ FIRST AID TRAINING CENTER ' OF IZMIT

Thousands of lives are lost due to industrial, traffic, indoors accidents in addition to natural disasters or become permanently incapacitated resulting with production and manpower losses and sometimes causing psychological and social disorders within the family members. The fatality ratio is 10 % within five and 45% within thirty minutes.

Although legal legislations and the support of the state to the issue have increased within last two years it is hard to say the same thing for the applications in this regard. The scenes that frequently take place in visual media about a wrong approach after an accident or fire is the indicator of lack of consciousness and knowledge of the community. There are a lot of sufferings in daily life for people sourcing from accidents, instantaneous sicknesses and emergency situations. However the regretful part is the loss of lives, severe injuries and permanent incapacitations due to wrong approaches in first aid. In 2002 the Ministry of Health took some measures for the issue and brought the necessity of having trained first aid personnel in public and private institutions.
Followed by the legislations, although some institutions in Ankara and Istanbul have established first aid training centers, there had not been any initiative in Izmit, the city of industry in Turkey where most of the occupational accidents occurs. Therefore, IBC, that had implemented several projects following the 1999 earthquake in Izmit, launched the studies to establish the first First Aid Training Center in Izmit. The organization activities had been completed last month and IBC took its license from Directorate of Health. As the first activity, The Center gave free of charge training to the personnel of Izmit Mentally Challenged Rehabilitation and Education Center last week. It is expected that signing contracts for first aid training services with the industrial institutions will secure the financial sustainability of the center. In this way it will be possible for the center to prepare and carry out public training programs of first aid and social mobilization activities in order to increase the consciousness and knowledge of the community regarding first aid which is neglected and considered as an issue of minor importance.	All the manikins; as adult, child and baby have a skill guide which warns during wrong applications and guides you.
